Forte a Mare, or the Sea Fort that protects Brindisi, was built by King Ferdinand I of Naples in 1491. It stands on the Island S. Andrea, which faces the port of Brindisi. Just outside the city lies the Natural Marine Reserve of the Worldwide Fund for Nature of Torre Guaceto. The Duomo, or Brindisi Cathedral, is one of the city's most iconic landmarks.
