Brindisi on the Adriatic Sea is a historic city with a rich heritage in maritime trade and Brindisi still boasts an important port today, trading mainly with Greece and the Middle East. Among Brindisi's tourist attractions are the Castello Svevo or Castello Grande, which was built by Emperor Frederick II and was once home to Italy's King Victor Emmanuel III in the 20th century.

Forte a Mare, or the Sea Fort that protects Brindisi, was built by King Ferdinand I of Naples in 1491. It stands on the Island S. Andrea, which faces the port of Brindisi. Just outside the city lies the Natural Marine Reserve of the Worldwide Fund for Nature of Torre Guaceto. The Duomo, or Brindisi Cathedral, is one of the city's most iconic landmarks. Built in the 11th and 12th centuries, the original Romanesque cathedral was destroyed in an earthquake in 1743.
