Visit Brindisi Harbour

Brindisi's port already served the ancient Romans, when they traded across the Adriatic Sea. It was their gateway to the Middle East. Today, Brindisi Port is used for yachting and tourism, as well as for commercial shipping. Various tourist ferries leave daily for destinations in the Adriatic and Ionian Seas to take tourists to Italian and Greek islands, the Balkan Peninsula and Turkey.

From the train station it takes about 15 minutes to reach the port. The Marina is the newest part of Brindisi Harbour. It's a great place to come for an afternoon and watch the yachting community coming and going. Yachts gain access by sailing between the imposing Forte a Mare castle, which sits on S. Andrea island, and the Costa Morena dam, which opens up to the inner or medium harbour. The Marina is equipped with laundry services and showers and has its own car park. Road access is via Via Dardanelli.

For tourists who don't arrive with their own yacht there are two charter companies that provide boats for travels to the Greek islands, Salento and the rest of Southern Puglia's coastline. Throughout the year there's something interesting to see. Brindisi Port hosts various water sports events, such as regattas that are organised by Italian and international sailing federations. The Circolo della Vela, or Sailing Circle, has been involved in the organisation of the Italian Sailing Championships as well as the Sailing Days of Bocche di Puglia, the International Regatta Brindisi-Corfu and the World Championship ORC events to name but a few.
